In Tibet è noto come il 'Prezioso Maestro' Guru Rinpoche ed è venerato dalla scuola Nyingmapa come secondo Buddha. Viene considerato il primo e più importante diffusore del Buddhismo in Tibet, particolarmente del Vajrayāna e il fondatore del Buddhismo tibetano. Il suo culto è diffuso anche in Bhutan e in Sikkim.

 

In Tibet he is known as the 'Precious Master' Guru Rinpoche and is revered by the Nyingmapa school as the second Buddha. He is considered the first and most important speaker of Buddhism in Tibet, particularly of Vajrayāna and the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. His cult is also widespread in Bhutan and Sikkim.
