Subject not identified.

The Schubert brothers were the sons of Johann Gottlieb Schubert (1818-1878) and Johanna Rabel Becker (1824-1903). Both sons were born in Lesohwitz bei Goritz, Prussia. Frederick William Schubert was born on 21 November 1852 and Paul Otto Schubert was born on 25 July 1855. The Schuberts came to the United States in the late 1850‘s, settling first in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; two years the family relocated to Kiel, Wisconsin, where Johann worked as a mason. Frederick Schubert was a wagon maker, and brother Paul assisted his father in mason work. Around 1870, Paul traveled to Sheboygan and began studying photography with George Groh. After five years, he established a home base studio in Kiel, and bought a horse and wagon as a photographic gallery, and began traveling the area. On Sundays, he took pictures in Kiel. In 1880, his brother Frederick left the wagon making business and joined Paul in forming a partnership in Kiel. The brothers had branch studios in such places as New Holston, Chilton, Brillion, and other communities. Frederick was married on 13 April 1888 to Emma Harbrecht (1863-1912), and the couple had six children. Paul never married. Fred worked as a photographer until his death in 1932. At that point, Paul continued to work with the assistance of his niece Mrs. Edgar A. Paulsen. Paul Schubert passed away on 26 October 1945.
