CDV by J.M. Horning, & Co., Traveling Artists

According to Robert O. Brown's "Collector's Guide to 19th Century U.S. Traveling Photographers", J.M. Horning was active in Kansas and Pennsylvania from the late 1860's to the late 1870's. I found a 22 May 1875 ad in the Denton Journal of Maryland for J.M. Horning and Company. In part, the ad stated "Ferrotypes taken and delivered in ten minutes. Persons wishing pictures of Babes will please come before 12 o'clock, A.M. Ferrotypes--quarter and eight sizes, 4 and 8 for 50 cents. Photographs from $1 to $1.50 per half doz. Pictures taken cloudy as well as clear weather." In the 1880 census, J. Milton Horning, age 49, was living in Chestertown, Pennsylvania, and he was working as a photographer.
