Unraveled Yarns -Episode 2- Dine-and-Slash scene 10 - Final Scene
ACT THREE -- Final Scene
Luke:
Betty! Betty! (the flashlight is retrieved, picked up, shone on the speaker, which is a bloodied, disheveled Luke) Betty, it's me, Luke!
Betty:
Luke? (she looks around) Where is he? The killer! Ryan's the killer!
Luke:
I figured that out when he hit me over the head. (goes to her, helping her to the bed) He's over there, on the floor. Don't look at him. He's dead.
Betty:
(looks up at Luke with teary eyes) He said you were dead.
Luke:
Pretty sure I have a concussion. You'll have to drive me to a hospital, if you think you can?
Betty:
We'll help each other. (nods)
DAY-INT-OFFICE
(Betty sits in a comfortable armchair across from an older woman, also seated in an armchair, holding an open notepad.)
Betty:
It's nearly a year, Doctor. Things seem to be finally settling down, but sometimes .. I still have the dreams. And when I do, it's not Luke who wins the fight, it's Ryan Davis. And I wake up, screaming.
PSYCHIATRIST:
You've come a long way, Betty. Don't think of the nightmares as a failure to heal, it's just your fears working their way through the experience, battling to come out on top, to show you that you were smart enough to see through the deception. (smiles) You're a brave, intelligent woman. You won.
Betty:
(smiles) That's what Luke tells me. (glances at the wristwatch on her left wrist, the wedding ring on her left finger catching afternoon sunlight peeking through the sheer drapes of the doctor's cozy office) Oh, gosh! Luke's probably waiting, outside!
Psychiatrist:
(rises from her chair as Betty gets up and collects her things) Do you think he's a little overprotective, Betty? I could always schedule a session for both of you?
Betty:
(pauses in the open doorway, smiling back at her psychiatrist) Actually, he's just the right amount of protective for a newlywed, Doctor. See you next month! (she hurries through the outer office)
(The psychiatrist goes to her window, parting the thin drapes and looking down at the tree-lined street where a handsome man leans against a red truck. He brightens and Betty runs into his arms. They kiss, he opens the passenger door for her, presenting her with a small bouquet of bright flowers. She accepts them, laughing, briefly kissing him again, and he helps her into the truck before going around to the driver's side.)
Psychiatrist:
Just the right amount. (agrees with Betty, smiling and allowing the drape to close as the truck pulls away)
