Hawker_selling_flour_moulding

The art of making flour moulding practised by craftsmen living in the south-eastern part of China has passed on to generations until now. Yet the same artwork never gained popularity in Hong Kong for obvious reasons, notably the availability of more interesting toys and recently the sophisticated electronic game devices.

Even back in the 60s there were plasticized materials similar to Blu-tac available on the market, which is much more durable and lasting for handicraft. Moulding made from dampen flour just do not last more than a couple of days.

The master craftsman shown has been selling these as a street vendor on his own. Carrying a small work bench and a stool, pieces of moulding supported by bamboo sticks were made in a variety of colors and shapes, attracting childern passing by, but seldom sold in significant quantities.
