RCF-Olinger-No55-SharpenAI-Softness

L&N Extra 147 South, two miles geographically west of Olinger, Va. in May 1967. This was train No. 855 running late, so the CV dispatcher ran him extra from Loyall, Ky. to Norton. I wish I could remember the fireman's name that day, but he was pointing to me and shouted my name. They were sometimes amazed at some of the places I might show up with my camera. At that time in this region, I seldom if ever saw or knew of anyone else taking train photos. There were others, however, but not many. The mix of Alco and EMD diesel power was filling the valley with sound keep that full tonnage train rolling at track speed. From here to Olinger it's uphill. The whisp of exhaust smoke confirms the engineer has found another throttle notch, or maybe two or three.
