7. Motion - Full Silhouette

The subject matter of this image, combined with the setting, were used to emphasize a sense of solitude. The viewer can hopefully relate with the figure in some way. Lighting was very important in this image, because I wanted the figure to be a silhouette (with the exception of the outline of the figure created by the light). The spots of light created by street lights and cars create a sense of rhythm, and draw the eyes from the focal point created by the road. The sidewalk, street, fence, and lights also draw the eyes back into the deep space. I used a medium sized aperture to capture a majority of the image in focus. Motion was captured by the slightly slower shutter speed. I used one that was fast enough to not capture any movement by the subject, but just long enough to capture movement in passing vehicles. There is an interesting contrast between the stillness of the figure and the captured quick movement of passing vehicles.
