Insectivores Together. Sympetrum striolatum, Common Darter, on Sarracenia sp., Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam has a pretty, small garden and tiny pond with insect eating plants. Though small, there's lots to see if you have the patience.

Here's a Common Darter Dragonfly, a voracious insect-eater, and it's alighted on the hood of a Pitcher Plant, a dangerous insect trap itself. I'm not sure which Sarracenia this is; it's labeled as 'leucophylla', and it may be a red variety. But it could just as well be a hybrid. Pitcher Plants hybridise easily... Not that the insects to be trapped care, I would think...
