Cache la Poudre

We used the opportunity presented by actually being in Rocky Mountain when Trail Ridge Road is open to actually drive over to the park's west side. We've only continued on this way once before that I can remember, way back in 2008. I think we're like most people in this respect. The west side of the park tends to be a lot less busy.

This view is looking north from an overlook just past the Alpine Visitor Center, when the road drops of a ridge toward a gap in the Continental Divide called Miner Pass. The valley carries the Cache la Poudre River, which flows north and then east from here and eventually merges with the South Platte at Fort Collins.

You can also see the Weather Trip flirting with us here. There's rain falling a couple of valleys over.
