Tasty Zawngṭah ! The three stages of the growth of tasty Zawngṭah fruit(yongchak in Meitei or Manipuri):Parkia Roxburghii
With these three shots I've tried to cover the growth of the tasty fruit which we all know as ZAWNGṬAH. The above image shows full grown fruits ready for eating, the middle one represents the sprouting of the beans and the last one, the early stage of flowering."this bean after having its skin scraped off is eaten raw or cooked... and the seeds only being rejected if they are too old and hard for that purpose.....are so fond of the zawngtah fruit that they watch its growth with interest and give special names to the different stages. The first stage, which in other trees would be called the forming of the flower bud, is spoken of as Bilbawlawk. The second stage, which in other trees would be called the opening of the blossom, is spoken of as zawngṭah par tuvu. The third stage, which in other trees would be called the forming of the fruit, is spoken of as Zawngṭah ar-ke ". Shots are mine and words are lifted from Pu Buanga's(Rev.J.H.Lorrain) Dictionary of the Lushai Language. Here is a link if you would like to know more about this enigmatic fruit.Plz follow it till the comments made by the readers of the blog. Happy viewing.( This upload is specially meant for viewers of North East and especially for friends in Mizoram )
