Silk-Floss Tree

Amazing Silk-Floss Tree in bloom. Chorisia speciosa Native to Tropical America, the tree was once a source for kapok used for padding or stuffing.Related to Kapok Tree Ceiba This is a 25' JUVENILE that still has the extremely thorny trunk. When I stopped to take a photo, the elderly couple said they had a young one for sale - zip to the ATM for cash! Corpus Christi, Texas. Oct. 2009.

 

 

Chorisia speciosa has since been re-classified to the present Ceiba speciosa. The Family has since been re-classified from Bombacaceae to Malvaceae
