Halifax CT 71, Great Albion Street, Halifax, 1974
A lovely early 1970s view of Halifax Corporation 71, a Weymann bodied Leyland PD2 grinding up Halifax's Great Albion Street. The bus is about to make the left turn into St James Road where the former Halifax bus station can seen to the right of the picture.
71 passed to West Yorkshire PTE on the 1st April 1974, with the rest of the Halifax fleet. Under the ownership of WYPTE, No71 became 3071; the 3xxx series numbering denoting vehicles from the former Halifax fleet.
As for the stone built bus station, that closed in the late 1980s, replaced a more modern facility in the town. Today, an office block stands on the site.
The two-storey building behind the bus was a medical centre. That too has been demolished (c2014), and a new medical centre now stands on the site.
Large format colour negative scan.
