Amazing Fertilized Kadota Figs!

Notice the small hole in the center bottom fig. That indicates a small insect was inside to fertilize the plant. Figs are the only plant that has its flowers inside the fruit. Isn't that amazing?

Excerpt from the description on Monrovia Nursery’s website: “Ficus carica 'Kadota' An attractive deciduous garden tree with intriguing branching that provides excellent winter character. They provide a reliable fall harvest of especially sweet, greenish-yellow fruit.”

My notes:

1. In Tucson, Arizona, they provide delicious fruit all summer and autumn.

2. You can find them canned in supermarkets. They are green and packed in a sweet syrup.

3. Figs are the only fruit that has its flowers inside the fruit. Insects burrow inside to eat pollen and fertilize the flowers.
