Saxicola Torquata
Millwall Junction, North Greenwich branch
In 1871/72 the Great Eastern Railway opened a branch from their London to Blackwall line. It ran from a new station at Millwall Junction through the Isle of Dogs to a terminus at a place that the GER called North Greenwich.
on 4 May 1926 the passenger service on the branch, along with all passenger sevices between Stepney and Blackwall, were closed. Freight traffic continued to be carried in the line although, latterly the wkole branch became a part of the PLA.
This photograph, taken fron the footbridge spanning Millwall Junction station, was taken in May 1963.
If it were possible to stand in exactly the same spot today, the above scene would be of the dual-carriageway Aspen Way and it's intersection with Prestons Road
