Toledo Edison 1993 9
A visit to Toledo Edison's Acme Generating Station and its unique electric railway in 1993, the year the plant was closed. The railway had an unusual "side trolley" arrangement (wire offset completely to one side) to provide clearance for loading hopper cars.
This shot shows locomotive No. 2 with the Toledo skyline in the background. No. 2 was my personal favorite in the Toledo Edison fleet. Built new for TE in 1924 by the Differential Car Company of Ohio, it features rounded ends characteristic of DIFCo's well-known trolley dump cars.
The last portion of the facility was demolished in 2013. The electric locomotives have been preserved by several museums / individuals. No. 2 went originally to the Waterfront Electric Railway museum group in Toledo, and eventually to the Northern Ohio Railway Museum.
Additional info on this locomotive can be found on the NORM website: www.trainweb.org/norm/roster/electricfreight.htm#TEC02
