Musical Contest

This scene depicts a musical contest. A citharoedus dressed in a white tunic and the cloak folded on his left arm, is gets on a podium located at center of the scene. The man, using the plectrum held in his right hand, plays an eptachord kithara leant on his left arm. On the sides of the platform two bearded men sit on folding stools. They are wrapped in their himations, and, leaning the right hand on a staff, they look towards the musician. The two mature men are two “agonothetes”, judges, chosen to evaluate the performances of the musicians.
