Beauty and the Beast Window Replica - Disney Store Purchase - First Look - Deboxed - Backlit By Direct Sunlight - Full Front View

Here I am comparing seeing the window by direct (reflected) light, versus backlighting (transmitted light). First in in a room brightly lit by morning sunlight, then against a window with indirect sunlight shining through it, then reversed window with transmitted light. Front lit, you can see the molding on the frame much better, and the black dividing lines give the window a three dimensional look, but it looks like a painting rather than a stained glass window. Back lit, it looks much more like a stained glass window. By indirect sunlight, the colors are muted compared to the front lit window, and it looses the three dimensional aspect, as the frame and dividing lines are now flat looking. It looks much more like a stained glass window now. Finally, another shot of the window with direct sunlight shining through it.

I just received the Beauty and the Beast Window Replica from the Disney Store. It is part of the Art of Disney Theme Parks Collection. It came in a large carton that was long and wide but thin, 28'' x 18'' x 4''. It weighed in at 10 pounds, with the item itself weighing a hefty 7 pounds. It was very well packaged in a styrofoam padded box. The window was in perfect condition, except for a very small unpainted spot near the top of the rose, which I didn't notice until I held it up to the light.

Despite what the Disney Store description says, the replica is actually made of glass, not resin. It is a single pane of thick glass that is painted over, divided into sections by a thick black material. A real stained glass window would be made of sections of differently colored pieces of glass that are held together by lead. Since this replica is actually made of glass, and the paint is a relatively thin coat, it is translucent and looks very much like real stained glass when back lit. The colors are very bright and applied very evenly, except for a small bald spot that I mentioned earlier. It comes with hanging hardware, but I don't think I will actually hang it on a wall. Instead I will simply prop it up against a wall, when I find a good spot to put it. I don't have a Beauty and the Beast nook yet, but I may have to create one in order to display this amazing work of art properly.
