Ancient Cypress of Abarkooh

The ancient ‘Cypress of Abarkooh’ is one of the oldest known trees in the world with an estimated age of 4000 years. It is located in the town of Abarkooh, Yazd province, Iran. It was already well-known in the 13th century AD as the historian ‘Mostofi’ referred to it as a ”world famous” tree. This gigantic, well-formed tree is a listed natural heritage in Iran and attracts many visitors to the area.
I had an opportunity to photograph it from within its protected surrounds. This is a sight not many people can see.
