Standing motionless on a marshy shoreline, this juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron was staring intently at the water, waiting for its next meal to swim past. The Black-crowned Night Heron is so-named because these birds feed mostly at night, typically between evening and early morning. I spotted this youngster just before sundown on a recent day.
