Something new!

"Why Portia," you ask, "where did you find that lovely skirt? Is it all one piece?!"

The simple answer is YES! The entire dress is -one- prim. I'm borrowing the following quote from a NC I received from my JANE update group this morning (and if you haven't been to JANE before you should go. Now.):

~ "Mesh is worn on top of the avatar, much like clothing would in real life. By nature, mesh clothing cannot be modified within Second Life. You CAN change the attachment points over and over and they will always automatically align to the place the creator placed them. This is great as you will no longer have to realign items you move from point to point. Mesh is also created to move with your body. If you should sit down while wearing a mesh skirt, the skirt will bend with you, rather than having a rigid sculpt or prim jutting out in front of you. You will no longer need glitch layers to conceal the fact that a leg is sticking out of the side of your skirt. If you kick your leg in the air, the mesh skirt will stretch with the kick. It's truly amazing.

Mesh will do it's best to fit your shape as far as height and length of limbs go. It will also stretch to fit in cases of overall avatar size based on some factors but not all. Unfortunately, mesh cannot stretch to fit with the breasts, butt, muscle size, love handles, belly size, saddle bags or body fat. You will be finding helpful alpha layers with your mesh purchases in order to conceal some of these fit issues.

Keep in mind, that the alpha layers will not be able to correct all size issues and you may need to tweak your shape a touch in order to make things fit. As far as I can tell from testing, there are many aspects of your shape that will make a mesh fit and so far, I have been able to work around fit issues without changing my overall appearance. Instead of saddle bags, you CAN change the width of your hips. Instead of body fat, you CAN change the thickness of your avatar. In the case of breasts, many times, I've found that simply changing the buoyancy of your breasts will make them work with the alpha layer and mesh clothing. Also, from what I am seeing, if your avatar's body is proportioned in a realistic manner, the mesh clothing generally fits with no or very minimal shape adjustments. If you should even encounter a mesh that requires a lot of changes to your base shape, it may be a good idea to save the new shape to the same folder as the mesh clothing for future use." ~
