The Western Blue Flax flower, Linum lewisii, a perennial plant native to western North America. The flowers are are about 1½ inches (3.8 cm) across. Although the flowers only last a day the plant blooms in abundance from April through to late September.

The seeds of western blue flax are edible when roasted and have a pleasant nutty taste and are very nutritious.
