GORDON HAS LOST IT ? NICE ONE SUN

How ironic , under the headline “Gordon has lost it” to see the tarty redhead Sun

( owned /controlled by an OZ self-appointed multi-media magnate not renowned for his socialism) reporting it’s own divorce after a 12 year relationship with current PM, Gordon Brown and it’s new affair with gory same-old-story-Tory , “Hi! Call me” Dave Cameron!

UK Politics , it seems to me , has lost a sense of any principal and increasingly relies on image manipulation and media appeal. Sensationalist headlines and especially vote grabbing “kiss and tell” revelations that titillate but also propel the awful into celebrity, (anything to boost it’s own circulation figures.) is the Sun’s M.O. so an ideal platform for Dave who like the paper is short on substance and long on shallow appeal. “Newspaper’s don’t win elections- it is down to “the people” Gordon retorted today and in reality it boils down to the lesser of two evils. I have no political affiliation but feel rather sorry for Gordon as I believe he has more personal integrity than the opposition leader. It’s a bit like sympathy for the older man who lost out through an affair with the young pretender.

Ironic too that the Sun newspaper is the self-appointed voice of the people for the mythical traditional English working class sector of the population- mythical because not owning the means of production , Marx’s definition of the social category, applies to the majority of the UK population. The UK is not a democracy , a minority own the wealth and are reluctant to share it. Tory has always been synonymous with protecting self interest and no amount of hair dye and makeup is going to undo that fundamental.

I enjoyed a wonderful weekend recently, photographing at Tatton Park with triathletes using the 1000 acre estate as a sporting play ground. What appals as you enjoy such places is the knowledge that this was formerly the lavish stately home and grounds , the property of a wealthy land owning family sustained on the backs of a slave class that toiled all hours and were treated like dirt.
