6-3: Recuperation

After the fight-and ultimatley defeat-of the Varli demon, we were exhausted beyond reproach. The fight had utterly drained poor Valanthe of every ounce of strength within her. It was the firt time I had ever seen her this way, and it hurt me. I knew her magicks drained her but I had no idea of its limits. Yet even with out exhuastion, we also knew hat we could not stay here and become easy picking for some of other fell beast. So Taurox carried Valanthe and we set off as fast as our tired legs could take us.

We walked, leaving behind Shardrake City, leaving behind the Northern Reaches. We continued walking untl we could no longer see the black river that was the Shardrake Highway. For at least a day and a half we walked.

Finally, in a remote area of the Aswar Plains we found the remains of an old farmhouse. Its land, once fertile and thriving was now a ravaged dustbowl. Skeltal remains of the farms livestock were littered about, long picked clean by scavengers. Taurox lay Vaane down and she was soon asleep. He offered to take up watch while we all slept but I told him that was not necessary.

"We all need rest," I told him. "I think we will be alright."

He nodded in silent assent and we were all soon asleep...

And we slept for nearly two days. We awoke to find we were all still alive and well and our gear had been undisturbed. We had a light meal and rationed out some water.

"What do we do now?" Grim asked as he sat, cleaning his weapon.

I looked to Valanthe, who shrugged her shoulders. My gaze went to Taurox, who nodded.

"It seems we have some things to discuss," he remarked.

"I agree," I said, taking a seat.

We gathered around a rusting metal barrell and talked long into the day, until at last a descion was made.
