Vicus Excavations: Binchester (Vinovia) July 2013

Room, Bath House.. Co. Durham's answer to Pompeii. UK archaeology does not get better than this. Look at the height of those structural remains! This 1st-3rd century bath house, is a complex building, with many phases over its shelf-life. It was saved, because in the 4th Century it presumably had fallen out of use & the site was levelled by massive infilling & dumping of vicus rubbish, thus levelling the site for a new building platform in the 4th century and saving these wonderful structures from the later predations of stone robbers.
