Red Fox ~ Island Beach State Park, NJ ~ Explored 12/6/12

Still in his vibrant full winter coat this photo of the Red Fox was taken in the late spring this year. Island Beach State Park was washed over by the ocean and the bay meeting during Superstorm Sandy resulting in substantial damage to the dunes that have been home to the Red Fox. From what I have been able to learn, the fox make their dens deep within the sand dunes. So far two Red Fox have been sighted in the area. Island Beach State Park will be closed to the public for many months while repairs continue throughout the Barrier Islands, hopefully this will also give time for the fox's to rediscover the undoubtedly changed home they have occupied for years.
