Close packing on the surface of a sphere!
On a sphere the shortest distance between two point is part of a circle (arc of a great circle).
A sphere has the minimum possible surface area for its volume.
I choose another of ruthhallam's super photos of this display for my food fiesta gallery.

What a great image - can you name all the fruits?
What a wealth of variety is now available.
I am just old enough to remember receiving a box of tangerines wrapped in coloured silver foil in my Christmas stocking - and my mother's stories of food rationing (when 'no bananas' was not just a corny song).

A stunning micro-mosaic photo to end on - close-packed rectangles produce a market store:

" Made this one with IMosaic (http://www.imosaic.net/) great program. It took about 8 hour to be completed but it was worth it, I loaded a +20000 photo database to it, that might explain the long render time... You'll need to see the original size to appreciate all detail"
The large image is intruiging but you must see this original size
- a cool 3,335 x 2432 pixels!
Thank you Pablo for your patience and skill.
Thank you to all the tallented photographers whose images I have chosen for this gallery - I hope you like the way I have arranged and presented your images.

I created a number of foodie galleries when putting this one together (for a challenge on the Galleries: Promote Galleries group) so If you liked this one feel free to view any of my others.
"close packed 1": a food minimalist gallery
"food fiesta": a riot of show displays
"pyramid": for the geometrically-minded gourmand
"triptych progression 2": a food based gallery structured by a pattern of associations between and within 6 groups of three images.
Nothing here yet.
You can save a photo or video to a gallery from its detail page, or choose from your faves here.
