sestrel-refilled
So far so good - and no bubble. Its extremely hard to fill these and rid them of all bubbles. I do have one ! - its about the size of a pinhead - if that. It appeared after about two hours.
About 600ml mineral oil in these. They have a screwed down filler hole ( about 5mm ) - so its no big deal to top up and try again.
I also cleaned and wet sanded the grp bezel - and gave it a coat of matt varnish.
edit
Oct 18th 2019 - fitted back in boat - and still ok.
edit - update - 2025 Oct
- still ok, no bubbles but the baby oil has darkened slightly, 'yellowey' over the years in full daylight ?
I would imagine the baby oil has some trace ingredients. Perhaps one should have a cover on the dome while not sailing ?
edit - dec 25
I may refill it - and look furthe into what is the 'right' type of fluid. I believe it is white refined paraffin ? or - as said - refil with the same baby oil - and make a cover. It sill has no bubbles !
