DSC_1597 Prep works

A class 6 freight ran from Hunslet to Sheffield this morning in preparation to remove the derailed cripple wagons from the site of the Shrewsbury Road depot to Earles and presumably onward to Hope Cement works. Following some issues with the train brakes (a pipe bypassing the cement wagon's train brakes) the class 8 freight headed off to Earles some 30 to 45 minutes late.

Here the cripples have been split into 2 groups, 6 behind the smoking 70 and 2 behind the simmering 70. The right hand one was smoking as the engine was running under some power to get the train brake pressure correct. After much toing and froing between loco and wagons the six PCAs and three barriers moved down to platform 1, ironically roughly where the wagons were initially derailed two weeks ago. The left hand 70 then moved forward and shunted two PCAs back into the recently vacated siding, and then left to join the waiting consist on platform 1. Work beckoned, so I missed the detachment from the 2 PCAs, but noting the loco had run down to platform 1 on the track diagrams, I concluded that the combo would be moved fairly quickly, so a long lunch break was extended to catch the movement to Earles from a neighbouring over bridge.
