Grand Mosque of Muscat

The Sultan of Oman who has brought his country into the 21st century, and often beyond, ordered that this mosque be built. It was completed in 2001.

The Omanis worship a different branch of Islam called Ibadh, thus setting them apart from the rest of the Muslim world.

I loved photographing this mosque which was built in understated grandeur. The desert landscaping was also so appealing to me. This shot was taken right after sunrise and I also went back at sunset to photograph the mosque again.. You will see other images of this fine mosque.
