ODC - 'Threshold'

For Our Daily Challenge:

16-22 Jan 'Threshold'

This is my friend's ceramic poppy which arrived today in its presentation box, having been one of 888,246 displayed in the moat of the Tower of London over the summer months. Each poppy represented a British military fatality in World War One (1914-18).

The display started on 17 July, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the date at which Britain found herself on the threshold of the Great War, as it came to be known.

After the art installation was dismantled, each of the poppies was sold, raising millions of pounds which were distributed between six service charities.
