My grandmother and 5th partner/husband Mike.
She had a painful history of surviving WWII in occupied Poland. One night her husband, my grandfather, was removed from the dinner table and shot by partisans in the woods because of a misunderstanding. After immigrating to Oshawa with four children and starting a job at Fittings, she located through the Red Cross two more of her sons, her mother and siblings. They were displaced all over Europe, Scotland, Russia, India and Australia and one by one over the years, paid their safe passage to Oshawa. Maria Grabowski was a true elder who through her actions and deeds, created a nest of warmth, love and security for everyone.
