嵐山の花見に

まかりけるに

俄に風雨

しければ

 

いかたしのみのや

あらしの花衣

      蕪村

 

Arashiyama no hanami ni

makarikeru ni

niwaka nifūu

shikereba

 

ikadashi no mino ya

arashi no hanagoromo

 

When I went to Arashiyama to view the blossoms,

suddenly the wind blew and rain fell.

 

The raftsman’s

straw raincoat, in the storm

a robe of blossoms
