The Atom is a high performance sports car manufactured in Crewkerne, Somerset and under licence in the USA by TMI Auto Tech Inc.
The car was the work of then design student Nik Smart who designed the car while at Coventry University, it was developed with funding and input by among others British Steel and TWR and was first shown to the public at the 1996 British Motor Show at the NEC, Birmingham, as the LSC (Lightweight Sports Car)
The Atom is of exoskeletal design with no body roof and windows and its tubular chassis is clearly visible.
It is available with a 2.0ltr Honda iVTEC Supercharged engine of 300bhp or a Honda Civic Type R K20 engine of 245bhp. Priced (01.01.2010) £34,319 and £29,321 respectively.
Launched in 2008 there is also the Atom 500 with a Russell Savory designed V8 of 500bhp and priced at £150,000.
