Rule changes killed off modifiedcars in the ETCC. And a fuel crisis killed off sales of the RS 3100 after just 250 cars had been made, the last 50 being sent to Australia. In Britain it was the Capri 3000 GT and its successors that took most of Fords honours on the track. With the launch of the Series III Capri came the 3.0S model regarded as the most desirable model although the softer, more luxurious Ghia derivative with automatic, rather than manual transmission, was the bigger seller of the two V6-engined models. The 3.0 S was used extensively in the TV series The Professionals, with characters Bodie driving a silver 3.0 S and Doyle a gold 3.0 S, which was credited with maintaining interest in the car in the UK

The Capri 3.0S also made for an effective weapon in Touring and Endurance racing and Gordon Spice achieved class victory in the 1975 BTCC (no overall winner). In 1978 Spice partnered by Teddy Pilette also won the 24 hours of Spa race in a car sponsored by the Belgian Bastos cigarettes. Returing in 1979 again sponsored by Belga with a two car team of Capri 3.0S with Gordon Spice sharing car Number 1 with Belgian driver Alain Semoulin and Number 2 driven by Belgian drivers Jean-Michel Martin and Phillipe Martin with Brit Peter Clark as reserve driver

This car raced at Donington in The HTCC for 1966-85 Touring Cars. Seen here in the Bastos livery along with the name of fictional comic racing driver - hero Michel Vaillant.
