memories of rhizomorphs?

I came across a bleached tree trunk on the edge of a saltmarsh the other day. The beautiful pattern, I think, must have been caused by rhizomorphs of a fungus which had stained the driftwood. The trunk was about 10 feet long and about one foot in diameter. This was on the underneath of it ... you can see the sand at the top of the frame. I'd turned it over to look for corticioid fungi but found only these imprints on this occasion.
