Lode - War memorial
First World War memorial (unveiled on 4th March 1923) augmented by a curved wall with an inscription commemorating inhabitants of the parish who fell in the Second World War; I wonder if the design of the latter inscription, and of the hedge behind it, might reflect the influence of the 1st Baron Fairhaven of Anglesey Abbey.
In the background are the church of St James, built as a chapel of ease to Bottisham in 1853, and the vicarage, built in 1864: www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/cambs/vol10/pp215-220 .
