Blankenberghe - Blankenberge : Belgium : tourist leaflet : 1934 : front cover
A rather fine and deco feel to this folding leaflet issued to promote the Belgian coastal resort of Blankenberge, here described by the French version of the town's name, Blankenberghe. Undated it has been stamped by the "Sheffield Sports CC - 1934" and indeed the folder illustrates the stylish pier that was constructed and opened in 1933.
For many years Blankenberge was quite the chichi resort especially during the Belle époque when many titled Europeans made this their favoured vacation haunt. In inter-war years the original pier and the famous Casino were reconstructed in 1933/34 and a 'moderne' crowd were attracted. After heavy damage during WW2 the town, after repair and reconstruction, was still a popular holiday destination.
The leaflet, showing the Pier and the new Casino, even has aircraft overhead as if to emphasis the modern nature of the town. The leaflet is printed by "Hélio R. Protis et F. Vuldar, Liége" and the artwork is credited; however I cannot quite make the artist's name out at this stage. The gold decorative border is shown throughout the leaflet.
