1. Jilin (1994.020)
Classify and Clarify
Meteorites are the oldest known rocks in the solar system. Most of them have physical structures that are very different from those of terrestrial rocks. Meteorites are divided into different types: Stony (95%), Iron (3%), Stony-iron (2%). The Stony divide in Chondrites, Carbonaceous chondrites and Achondrites.
Stony - Chondrules are 1, 2, 3, and 4
Stony - Carbonaceous chondrites is 5
Stony - Achondrites are 6 and 7
Stony-iron - Are 10 and 11
Chondrules
Chondrules, the basic building bloxks of chondrites, are little spheres of various sizes and textures. They are absent from terrestrial rocks, but comprise up to 80% of these meteorites. Certain chondrites also contain inclusions rich in calcium, aluminum and tianium that are very...
Year of fall: 1976
Place of fall: China
Additional information: About four tonbes of meteorite matter were collected
Jillin is the largets meteorite shower ever witnessed. Its biggest fragment weighed 1,770 kilograms (the heaviest fragment of a story meteorite to ever reach the ground intact). Jliin's main mass is the largest meteorite from any observed fall. The fall included over 100 fragments. Jillin's ? field was impressive, measurin 72.
