DD - 03

The next thing I focused on was figuring out how I was going to do the metalwork belt and shoulder pieces.

I looked around online and found other people making these pieces using a vareity of techniques. Most popular was drawing the design with hot glue. But I didn't like that idea, as the glue could warm from body heat and distort out of shape. Another person used Worbla (or maybe it was Wonderflex - I don't recall.) But it's pricey, and I wasn't quite ready to take the plunge. One person even used a thin sheet of actual metal cut with a laser cutter - Not something I have access to.

Thinking about what I could afford, and was confident working with, I decided to give craft foam a try. But this was definitely a case for doing samples before beginning to work on the final pieces. So the first thing I did was create a template for my samples out of a piece of scrap chipboard. When drawing the irregular shapes that make up the design, I used a reference photo of giraffe spots as a guide.
