Synthetic Fluorescent Mineral Experiment: 'Ruby Thursday' - UVb

 

FOV: 6" wide.

 

Aluminum sulfate combined with chromium oxide and heated with a MAPP gas torch until incandescent. Heated on aluminum trays on a steel plate.

 

The samples in front contain a 0.2% mol concentration of Cr to Al. The left sample in the rear contained about a 0.5% mol concentration and the right sample contained a 2.5% mol concentration.

 

The right sample in front also contains calcium and manganese from the CaAl655 forumla.

 

Suspected phosphors: Al2O3:Cr3+ and CaAl2O4:Mn4+
