B175 Britannia 311 G-AOVA Sen 24Jun64 (British Eagle) RJG

British Eagle Britannias were not common at Southend in the 1960s, as the fleet was self-maintained and not part of the Aviation Traders 'pool' maintenance scheme. However, G-AOVA 'Justice', seen here visiting Southend on 24Jun64, had been present earlier in the year having its BUA paint scheme removed at the end of a short lease. G-AOVA was almost always owned by Bristol Aircraft, but regularly leased. Started as a series 311 but finished as a 312, it first flew from Filton on 31Dec56 and went briefly to BOAC in Jul57, was converted to series 319 in Oct60 and delivered to Ghana Airways on 09Nov as 9G-AAH. It was restored as G-AOVA on 31Dec63 and stored at Filton until leased to BUA Feb-Apr64, then to British Eagle from 25Apr and eventually bought by BE on 29Dec67. It was sold to CCT (Aircraft Leasing) in Mar68 and leased to Caledonian Apr-Nov68 and again Mar-Nov69 and named 'County of Fife'. Leased to Lloyd International from Dec69, it was immediately sub-leased to Caledonian and returned to CCT in Dec70. It was finally withdrawn at Gatwick in Feb70 but moved to Baginton in May70, bought by Airline Engineering in May71 and broken-up for spares in Oct71.
