Herdwick Ewe
There she was, hiding in the bracken, the rest of her flock quietly grazing nearby. Taken near the Hardknott Pass, Lake District, England. She is a Herdwick - a hardy breed highly prized in this area for their ability to stay within their designated territory and withstand the mostly harsh weather conditions up on the fells. They have a thick, wiry fleece and although they might appear to remain untended, the shepherds take great care of them, often entering them in sheep shows after a thorough pampering !
The name "Herdwick" is derived from the Old Norse "herdvyck", meaning sheep pasture.
Processed in Topaz Glow, Fur and Feathers and Soft Bloom.
Thanks as always for your faves, comments, invites and awards - I really do appreciate them all !
