Putangirau Pinnacles
Stephen, above me in the side gorge off the main gorge in which the Pinnacles are located, provides some scale. Unfortunately, I find that it's really difficult to get a sense of "slope" in photography.
I think what I liked the most about this hike (which took about 3 hours altogether) was simply that this whole area was so striking and geologically-raw-looking. And we had it utterly to ourselves. Once relatively early, we passed one guy coming back down. That was it. I understand from Stephen that in summer you could expect a steady stream of folks going up and down.
