Power Grid's Green Project Underway in Andhra Pradesh

The ambitious development of India’s 'Green Grid' received a significant impetus this week with the formal initiation of a major transmission system strengthening project in Andhra Pradesh. On October 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially laid the foundation stone for the Power Grid Transmission Andhra project at the crucial Kurnool-III Pooling Station, marking the beginning of a key infrastructure undertaking by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). This massive initiative, valued at an estimated Rs 2,886 crore, is strategically vital for facilitating the seamless integration of burgeoning renewable energy (RE) generation into the national power grid, reinforcing India's commitment to a sustainable energy transition.

The ceremony, which took place in the presence of key state dignitaries including the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Konidala Pawan Kalyan, underscored the collaborative push between the Central and State governments to enhance regional power infrastructure. The entire project is centered around the construction of a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting the Kurnool-III Pooling Station to Chilakaluripeta. This high-capacity transmission corridor is designed not merely to transfer power, but to fundamentally upgrade the grid's capability to handle future green power surges.
