Goodnight, Texas

I was en route to a rather middle-of-nowhere place the other evening and noticed a sky full of wispy, high-elevation clouds that would likely make for a good sunset. I began thinking about possible spots I might be able to shoot and possible subjects, keeping an eye out during the hour-long trip. As it turned out, the sunset WAS incredible, but I was still struggling to find something to shoot other than the clouds once the colors were really starting to pop. And then, I saw a small group of horses. I knew I had to photograph the horses against the sunset. It was the law. I turned off the pavement and onto a dirt county road that would place the horses between me and the most fiery part of the sky. I called out some gentle, goofy greetings while wading into the roadside grass, walking on my knees to both appear less threatening and to better position the horses above the horizon. Luckily, the horses were curious about me and wandered closer, probably hoping that I had a snack for them. I didn't have much light left by the time I found the horses, and I was forced to use a relatively fast shutter, as they were pretty active in their endeavor to acquire a snack. Though overall, I was pretty happy with this glorious-looking horse and sky, despite a little noise in the image due to the above compromises.
