Thick Skin
Emotions are the screws and hooks and nails the devil drives into you, onto which he then attaches his strings to make you his puppet. All the while pulling a Charles Widmore on you, making you think it was your own idea to dance for him.
Being a bit removed from your own emotions, I always hear talked about as a flaw, a shortcoming. In this world that gets crazier every day, I've since come to the conclusion, it isn't. It's more like a superpower, a suit of armor. It would be a lie to say you won't miss out on some parts of life people typically see as important, and I can see why they call them important. But then, I guess every superpower comes at a cost. An equal and opposite cost. The relative freedom from suffering is paid by the equivalent freedom of joy.
Emotions get way too good a rap. They're a lot like cancer, if you think about it. Ignoring them won't make them go away, but force them into hiding at best. Only to resurface at a later point in a form that's much harder to tame now. As if refusing to dance just makes the devil pull harder on those nails in your flesh.
