Lucky #714 Fremont, CA

UPDATE 2/15/25: I didn't know this at the time, but this Lucky is actually a former Gemco. I didn't know too much about Gemco at the time so I didn't recognize it. A good sign of this is the cool raised ceiling in the front of the store. I thought it was a cool touch to the store, but little did I know at the time it was actually a major Gemco remnant. When Gemco was dissolved by American Stores, this was one of the locations taken over by Target in 1987. Target operated for a while, but in turn moved to a larger location up the road in the late 90's. American Stores briefly took this store back over in 1998 before they merged with Albertsons.

This store is a good example of an older Lucky supermarket. The Bay Area has more examples of older Lucky stores, since Lucky originated in Northern California, so it has had a longer presence here. This store is unique with its raised ceiling with beams and skylights in the front of the store.

This store was formerly American Stores Lucky #142, before Lucky merged with Albertsons in 1999. This store then became an Albertsons for 7 years until 2006 when Save Mart bought the remaining original NorCal Albertsons stores, and then once again the store carried the well-known Lucky banner. The store was renovated to the "Lucky California" format in 2021.

This store was very slow at the time of my visit, although I'm sure there were days when it was much busier. Oh well, it's makes taking pictures easier.
