For this project, I decided to emulate David Hockney’s photography style. Hockney is a British painter, stage designer, printmaker, and photographer. He is incredibly well known for his collages. On certain projects, he would take hundreds of close-up photos, reconstructing them to create one large collage. In his work, he often mimics Cubism, creating a multifaceted representation of the subject.

The inspiration for my photograph was Hockney’s photogenic collage titled "The Scrabble Game" which was captured in 1983. In order to emulate his style, I took many photos of my subjects playing Connect Four. Some photos were close-ups of the table, background, props, or even my subjects. Through the multiple images I took, I wanted to portray the different emotions my subjects had throughout the game. In many of Hockney’s photographs, the tones are warm and inviting. Due to this knowledge, I wanted to take the photographs at sunset because I thought it would give them a saturated look. Within Hockney’s work, the more you zoom in, the more you realize that some pieces are collaged together which is apparent in my work as well. In order to collage all these photos together, I used an editing app—PicsArt. Overall, I’m very happy with the outcome!
