rp @woketeachers: Our biases have consequences!
These consequences disproportionately impact our Black students and students of color. Your biases cause excessive discipline, lower teacher expectations, over-critical grading procedures; and are linked to higher dropout rates, future incarceration, and lower higher education outcomes.
The first step toward disrupting implicit bias in your classroom is to truly audit your own biases. Get into the habit of mindfully interrupting your assumptions and redirecting them. Be honest about any discomforts and confusion you might feel. This is challenging work, and you might find yourself alarmed when you get honest about your biases. But that raw discovery can lead to real growth, and that growth will positively impact every student you teach.
UNPACK YOUR BIASES but remember they are deep rooted. You need to consciously and continuously reflect on your biases DAILY. If you really want a change, get justice, end racism, do this work DAILY. - #diversityandinclusion #nashvilleteacher #antiracism #highereducation #blackhistory #ally #teachershare #blackintheivory #whitefragility #changingthenarrative #ushistory #socialstudies #historyteacher #teacherproblems
