The institution of academia — made up of a large percentage of PWI’s (Predominantly White Institutions)— presents knowledge to us in a way that suggests white people are the knowers and everything and everyone else is to be known, explored, studied and scrutinized under their white gaze and white perspective. That the knowledge produced by white researchers and intellectuals holds more weight in the cannon even moreso than the peoples they are studying (most often people of color and other “exotic” communities around the world).
